Virtual Sensors: Rapid Prototyping of Ubiquitous Interaction with a Mobile Phone and a Kinect 19/02/2011
4 months into starting my Ph.D., my supervisor encouraged me to submit a paper to the Mobile HCI conference, and it was accepted. This was my initial exploration of using the Kinect in combination with a mobile device, and my idea was to prototype indoor positioning applications using its many sensors. In addition to this short paper, my position paper was accepted at the workshop on Body, Movement, Gestures & Tactility in Interaction with Mobile Devices. This was a great research experience, and I presented both of my papers to top researchers in mobile HCI. I was an intern at Google Munich when the conference started, and I took a vacation to present in Stockholm. I stayed in a boat and had the pleasure of seeing inside the Nobel prize hall. I also visited a friend from university in Denmark, where we ate (danish) pastries and visited Legoland.
