Research Internship: MMI group 01/06/2009
As a 3rd year Software Engineering student, I was required to do an internship in industry. I interviewed at various places, and was offered a placement at companies including IBM and Sword Real Time. However, I was also contacted by a research group to do a placement with mobile devices. After careful thought, I decided to accept the internship with the MMI group. I spent 4 months creating applications to demonstrate research in the group. I developed a non-visual gesture-controlled music player and RSS reader on a Nokia N95 Symbian device using Java ME and a SK7 SHAKE sensor pack. This was a great experience to continue mobile development after my 3rd year project. After this internship, I was asked to tutor a member of the group with Java Swing, which I really enjoyed and continued to do for 2 years.
