During my internship at Google London I became interested in Map Reduce. I was accepted to attend a summer school at St. Andrews University that focused on processing and visualising large datasets. I completed exercises, including finding the top hashtags in a Twitter dataset, by using Hadoop to implement Map Reduce in Java. I gained experience in setting up EC2 instances on AWS and processing the data in the cloud. I also gained experience with interactive visualisation tools during a team project, which involved visualising a large Skyscanner dataset. Since this summer school, I have used D3.js to visualise data that I gathered in my research projects. A link to the summer school website is below, followed by a link to the Map Reduce exercise that was created by a member of my university.
